Susan Wilner, LCSW

Advisory Board Member

Susan Wilner began her career in the field of Service Marketing for a large Accounting Firm. Her work there involved new business development and response to RFPs. But her passion lay in her work with the people. Susan completed her Master’s Degree in Social Work to pursue that passion. Her work with children and adolescents with Mental Health Diagnoses positioned her to build an outpatient clinic for a local Psychiatric Hospital on Long Island.

There she was able to grow the clinic to serve over 350 children and young adults to help them on their road to recovery. With her background in business and human services Susan went on to serve as the Director of Behavioral Health under the Medicaid Redesign initiative in NYS. There she built behavioral health initiatives across Suffolk County to address the needs of the Medicaid population understanding that behavioral health and the social determinants of health are the drivers of health outcomes for individuals we serve. In her present role as Assistant Director for Behavioral Health Operations at Stony Brook Medicine Susan works throughout the entire hospital system, including Stony Brook University Hospital, SB-Eastern Long Island Hospital, SB-Southampton Hospital and all of their hospital practices, to help develop and implement innovative projects to best serve patients of Stony Brook Medicine and meet their needs to help them achieve their health goals.

From Western Suffolk to the two forks of Long Island Susan has implemented telemedicine initiatives, SUD programs, as well as integrated clinical programs. Susan also works as an Adjunct Professor in the Stony Brook Graduate School of Social Welfare, and has helped to develop their Integrated Care track for graduate students there.
